The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is seeking input on locations to add freight parking facilities along Interstate 84 in the vicinities of Route 9, in the towns of Fishkill and East Fishkill, and Route 747 interchange in the Town of Newburgh.

The survey asks questions about where truckers park, how they find adequate truck parking, and what amenities they look for when seeking overnight parking and for when they stop for a break during the day.

The NYDOT's survey also allows truckers to use an interactive map of the study section of I-84 to identify areas where they have issues with parking.

The deadline to take the survey is June 28.

Legend Transportation orders 50 Volvo VNLs

Volvo Trucks North America customer Legend Transportation placed the first order of 50 all-new Volvo VNLs. Legend Transportation worked with TEC Equipment to order 50 VNL 860s, Volvo Trucks’ flagship sleeper that will be manufactured at the Volvo Trucks New River Valley Assembly Operations (NRV) in Dublin, Virginia. Volvo Trucks introduced the all-new Volvo VNL in January, opened order books in April, and will start production this summer, with customer deliveries beginning later this year.

When it introduced it, the company said the new Volvo VNL is powered by the latest generation D13 engine that delivers improved fuel efficiency, performance, and durability. The D13 engine is available in four horsepower ratings, ranging from 405-500hp and three torque ratings from 1,750-1,950 lb-ft of torque. These different power options are designed to suit different applications and incorporate the improved and optimized I-Shift transmission, which features up to 30% faster shift speeds.

The streamlined and more angular, wedge-shaped cab design of the new Volvo VNL, featuring a dramatically redesigned windshield, is a key factor in achieving up to 10% improvement in fuel efficiency. Additional aerodynamic gains were created from the integration of the curved and bonded windshield, tighter clearances around turbulent air areas like wheel openings, the bumper and the hood, chassis fairings and promoting a tighter trailer gap.
