A professional driver was recently recognized for heling out a fellow trucker who had a medical emergency.
The Truckload Carriers Association recently named professional truck driver John Bradley as a TCA Highway Angel for his quick thinking and selfless actions during a roadside emergency. Bradley drives for James River Carriers out of Richmond, Virginia.
TCA explaians:
John BradleyOn the morning of Sept. 15, while onsite at a customer location in Richmond, Bradley noticed another company’s driver mistakenly hooking up to the wrong trailer.
After helping the driver correct the mistake, Bradley realized the driver had not fully secured the air lines and was preparing to pull away. Moments later, he observed the driver slumped over the steering wheel as the truck slowly rolled forward.
“I called 911,” said Bradley. “I couldn’t leave him because I knew something was wrong.”
Without hesitating, Bradley ran toward the truck, blocked traffic to prevent a potential collision, and climbed inside to bring the vehicle to a stop. He then ensured the driver received urgent medical assistance.
The driver had suffered a medical emergency. As it turned out, Bradley found out that the driver’s blood sugar was off that day.
“I’m glad he was alright,” says Bradley. “I stayed with him until the ambulance came.”
Since the TCA Highway Angel program’s inception in August 1997, nearly 1,500 professional truck drivers have been recognized as TCA Highway Angels for exemplary kindness, courtesy, and courage displayed while on the job. Thanks to the program’s presenting sponsor, EpicVue, and supporting sponsors, DriverFacts and Northland Insurance, TCA is able to showcase outstanding drivers like Bradley.
